Philadelphia 3Day 2010

after work at 7pm on Thursday October 14th I left Salem, MA and drove to NJ in the pouring rain. I arrived there at 2am and the rain was just ending. My sister was the only one who knew I was coming home for the weekend...(gretchen did too...) we woke up on Friday to a BEAUTIFUL sunny day, windy and chilly, but perfect for walking. After stopping at Wawa ( we dont have them here in MA...Lame, I know) for our morning coffee and breakfast sandwhich and discussing how one is just never enough, we headed to Germantown, PA to surprise the Glorious Victorious Walkers at mile 7 of their 60 miles!!!!! Vicky had no idea and I was sooooooooo excited to see her! we decided to not go to the "true" cheeringstation. we stopped behind some trees infront of a house....7925 Germantown Ave to be exact. it was a perfect spot. While waiting for them we ran into so many 3day friends!!!! I even saw Pam Clark, who i met in 2007. She was walking with her husband this year! it was awesome!! Kaylen, Pam Harrington, Bernadette, SK, Linda and Susan and so many more!! we had so much fun cheering everyone on!!!

<---- Pam Clark and Breast Wars 2007!

We couldnt text vicky to see how far she was from us, so we estimated when she'd be there...we waited 2 hours and there they were! She screamed along with Gloria and Lori as she saw Becca walking next to her...and then i came out from behind the bush! it was so awesome and tears were shared! I am so happy i was able to do this- I know it ment so much to her! We were only 2miles from lunch so we got to stay with them for alittle. :) we finished at Germantown, we walked with them to our car and then we headed down the streets beeping to Manayunk. Here we got some drinks and some grub and waited at the cheering station. When the Glorious Victorious Walkers saw us again, Lori and Gloria joined us with some Blue Moon's and we all toasted to find a cure!!
Cheers For A Cure!!!

DAY 2!

Melissa met Becca and I at my dads house and we drove together to meet the walkers of course we went to Wawa first!! we went to the first cheering station which was near lunch and again, we made our own spot a cheering station and we got to eat lunch with the team. It was sunny and chilly again but who cares, atleast it wasnt raining. We were so excited to bring high energy to the walkers who were getting tired....this time the medical tent at lunch had a line! after the first station we headed to another, where we met walkers from Previous years. They were so nice and so cool! I LOVED them! we all had a good time meeting eachother and cheering one the tired walkers. My new friend Caroline had the CUTEST sign she made...FREE HUGS! I stole her sign and stood in the middle of the sidewalk...walkers had no other choice. I was happy to make those in pain, smile even if it was for a second! :) they were a fun crew and Im so happy to have met them! hopefully we will all walk together sometime in the future- for now, they found me on facebook and I am super happy about that!  yay!
<----- my new friends!

Vicky came walking in alone to this one. Lori busted a move to get to the end sooner b/c she had a party to attend that night and Gloria had some blisters that stopped her from going for alittle.
After this cheering station it was time to go, i needed to head back to MA cause I had work on sunday. even tho it was a rushed trip, it was so worth it to see Vicky. She is such an amazing person and someone whom I look up to. I love her and I am just so happy to have seen her walk, I know she was walking for so many reasons and it makes me happy she was able to walk this year!
Its awesome that Vicky was able to share this journey with 2 new walkers. They now understand how hard this journey is and they are able to say "they get it". and those three words...mean everything.....

BOSTON 3DAY 2011....LOOK OUT!!!!! MARY'S ANGELS IS BACK!

WHAT A WEEK!!!!

VICKY CAME TO VISIT ME THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PJ and I went home to NJ to do alot of wedding things! On Friday 6/25/10 we headed out toward Smithville with Vicky as our witness to sign our Marriage License! right after that we mailed out the invites, checked the schedule at the hair salon, walked around Smithville, Spoke to the Florist, had our cake testing, had our wedding tast test #2, choose the menu, linnens and all that jazz, and finally, we booked our DJ! it was a LONG day but we got so much done and are sooooo excited!!!!

the next day I got to see baby Charleigh! She is beautiful.
after that...later in the day was my Bridal Shower! I knew NOTHING about it other than the date. I was really nervous and so, before hand PJ took me to get a drink a fridays to calm me down. hah. He told me we had to go to my dads house to drop off some things and then we are going to go to the shower...then he drove past my dads and pulled into the lake accross the street- i use to go there all the time and there everyone was! Under a HUGE tent and it was all decorated so nicely! I got to see people I hadnt seen in awhile and I just had so much fun. GIGANTIC THANK YOU goes out to my MOH's and BRIDESMAIDS. I Love you guys- more then you can ever imagine! Thank you to everyone who was there- <3 <3 <3

Monday comes, its back to work we go....when I get home PJ wasnt there yet...or was he?? He WAS home and told me he wasnt..when I got there it looked like he was there...but no where to be found! He called and said he was around the corner...he came in, said he forgot something in the car and wanted me to get it..so i went out- first i opened the front door to get my eye drops i left upfront..there was a girls purse on the floor and I didnt know why...so then i opened the middle door and there was a suticase- i thought maybe thats what he left in there...then i hear AHHHHH SURPRISE!!!! VICKY WAS IN THE TRUNK!!!!! PJ PICKED HER UP FROM THE AIRPORT AND DIDNT TELL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS SO GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She didnt want me to see Eclipse alone at 12am tuesday! hah. we hung out when I wasnt working and I just love her!!! def. a wonderful surprise! that ment so much to me!!!

July 13, 2010

I walked the Childrens Hospital of Boston's Walk for Kids with  PJ'S BFF Troy. The weather was not cool- rainy, humid, dark.... but that didnt stop over 5,000 moms, dads, kids and others so show their support for the childrens hospital. It was a great day.
I walked for my nephew who has autism and he happens to go to the childrens hospital a few times year- he is such a cutie pie and I <3 him. I wish he got to walk with me but I thought about him all day.
I am use to walking for Komen. That is my true passion, but when asked to do this walk i thought...you know what, I LOVE kids and its something new and since I am not walking in the 3day this year, Im gonna do this one. I am so glad I did. It opened my eyes to a different charity. There were kids there that melted my heart and I was so happy I raised money to help them. Each mile we walked was dedicated to a child who attends treatments at the Childrens Hospital. There were cheering stations, mr. bobs, and snacks throughout the 7 miles route! We walked around the Charles River and saw some awesome areas of Boston.
at the end of our walk we recieved metals and got cheeseburgers!! yummm!!! there were so many activites for kids and it was just great to see how happy they were, when inside they must be hurting. <3.

Home Sick.

Vicky hosted a few fundraisers the past few weekend! she had people from work donate unwanted things from around their home and she had a yardsale...all her sales she is donating! I was really home sick the past couple of weeks and wish i got to support her at these events, but I thought about her alot...and i think that made me more upset i wasnt there.... But i am really proud of all that she is doing! She and Gloria also hosted a Cinco Di Mayo fundraiser at the Chesterfeild in and raised over $1,500.00!!!! how awesome is that!! again, another one i wish i got to see but she kept me updated with her 50/50 raffel sales and the sales they made at happy hour! It went so well the Inn wants her to have it again next year!!! Woo hoo!! so awesome!! the next couple of fundraisers coming up are a car wash and a carnival. sounds like fun!!!

The night before Mothers Day PJ and I got to spend some time together, we both had to work on Mothers day so he wanted to do something special...we got our wedding bands!!! they are so pretty and I cant wait to marry him! <3

Mothers day came and went..it was the first year I had to work.
At midnight I looked at the scrapbook of my mom I made and cried... see, home sick. and missing mom. I didnt get to walk the Breast Cancer mothers day walk in Philly with my sisters and Vicky this year..so I wore my pinks and I walked 5 miles around the Charles River here in Brighton.  I called Becca while I was walking to find out they were walking too..so we did get to walk together..over the phone.
Work wasnt too bad...i was the only Mental Health Specialist working becides Andrea so I got alot of paperwork done. I thought about my family and the moms that are in it...and i thought about my mom of course.
My cousin Jenny just had her baby Charleigh so it was her first mothers day. wish i was there to see her! Shelley, Noelle and Maia went pottery painting- great girls day! I hope they had fun, i am sure they did!

I cant wait to see my family!!!!!!! June 25th is when Im in NJ next!

Kaylyn's Inspiration

So often, I'm asked, "How can you walk 60 miles in 3 days?" Or the better question, "How are you going to raise 2,300 dollars?" I've been told I'm crazy, but the thing is, I'm not alone in this insanity. The Susan G. Komen 3-day for the cure is said to be the craziest, boldest thing you can do to fight breast cancer, ...and I believe it. If you would like to help make a contribution to my fight, go to www.the3day.org/goto/kaylynkane , currently standing at 13 percent with $306 dollars towards the goal, I will make the goal by October 15th 2010. And I'll make it there, for you.        3day Video

New business raises money for breast cancer research

By LOIS HEYMAN

Staff Writer

Angela Zippilli of North Brunswick never grew out of her childhood love of baking cookies. Many
people who learn to bake at an early age go on to become pastry chefs and bakery owners, but
Zippilli's route is a bit more circuitous. She held onto her baking as she made her way into a
career in molecular biology, but along the way, she found more than a second vocation in baked
goods; she also found a cause.
After helping her mom out in the kitchen as a child, Zippilli began to bake on her own as a
teenager, and established a holiday tradition with friends that they called "Cookie Camp."
"We would get together for a weekend in December and bake several kinds of cookies to give
away to our friends and teachers as Christmas gifts," she says.
The pride and enjoyment she took in creating baked goods for others continued to feed her love
of baking, even as she studied cell biology and neuroscience at Rutgers University.
"Although I was very academically focused, I still tried to bake on weekends when I had the
chance," Zippilli says. After graduating in 2007 and becoming the manager of a molecular biology lab at Princeton University, she had more time to bake, but the idea of starting a real baking business remained a dream."That all changed this past summer when my best friend, Alexandra Krol, was raising money to
participate in the Susan G. Komen three-day Walk for the Cure, to benefit breast cancer research in memory of her mother, Mary, who lost her long battle with breast cancer in 2002," Zippilli said. She wanted to do all she could to help, and offered to sell her cookies, breads, cakes and muffins at events to help raise money. And so, Angie's Oven was born.At a North Brunswick craft fair in September, she sold her baked goods, and donated all the proceeds to her friend's team, "Mary's Angels," for their October entry in the Susan G. Komen walk."Over the past nine months, I've participated in a few flea markets in the North Brunswick area, and with each one I learn a little bit more about the business," she says. Some events have been fundraisers for Mary's Angels' 2009 walk, but Zippilli also is venturing into catering parties and other events, "to get my name out" and build her business.Angie's Oven specializes in cookies, offering pumpkin butterscotch cookies, ginger snaps and banana oatmeal trail mix cookies — along with classics like chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin. Her chocolate snowballs are a rich version of Russian teacakes, she says.
Her breads come in banana, pumpkin and zucchini; she also makes a fruit-and-nut tea bread.
Chai latte muffins "taste exactly as their name implies," Zippilli says. "If you like chai tea, you'll
definitely like these."Dark carrot raisin muffins — with carrots, whole wheat flour, raisins and honey — are a healthy treat.
"I'm always trying new recipes and I'm always open to customer requests," she says. "The best
part has been meeting new people who are also interested in baked goods. I'm excited to finally
turn my hobby into a real business."
More information about Angie's Oven is available by e-mailing angiesoven@gmail.com or calling
