Komen/ Planned Parent Hood...

Well...right now its late but i wanted to update a little on here..... Last week the news of Komen no longer granting to Planned Parenthood was spread all over causing a lot of different opinons and rifts all over the world. In a way I had a hard time understanding it, or maybe I just wasn't sure how I felt or how I was supposed to feel. Im not one for Politics and I Hate, hate. Logging on to my Facebook the day this news was issued world wide was shocking to me- There was images of Komen with Slashes through it and people updating their status like Komen Sucks.... I was shocked and didn't know what was going on! Once I read a few articles to try to get an understanding, it still made no sense to me how and why people were so upset. Well, I can see why people were upset however it just bothered me to see how people who are/were 3 day walkers, supports, ect. completely changed and now they want nothing to do with Komen. Dont get me wrong, Planned Parenthood is a great organization helping women all over the world- But people to me were treating it as if SGK put them out of business.  To be honest, I have walked in the SGK Race for the Cure on Mothers Day in Philly and I have walked in 4 SGK Breast Cancer 3 Days. I had no idea they granted PP until this information was released....don't get me wrong, i was upset to hear about it, but I have supported SGK for so many years since my mom passed aways as I dont want anyone to every have to go through what my mom, my family and I went through. Something even bigger than this would have to happen for me to never be a Komen for the Cure Supporter. SGK walkers are basically my 2nd Family and I will always love them.


A new walker that I have not met yet, however I helped to inspire her to sign up for the walk was upset about this as well and wasnt sure how people were going to support her on her journey. I posted this comment to her facebook:

i hate how people blew this up. The way I see it....its nothing to get mad over. People have their own opinions, which is great, but I think the way people are reacting is immature. Planned Parenthood is an organization that helps women with more than just breast health which is fantastic. Komen is now granting toward organizations that just offer breast health. Being a 4 time walker raising over $9200 I didnt even know SGK granted PP at all. Its not like the SGK foundation forced Planned Parenthood to go under and shut down. They are just focusing more on just breast health. If people want to donate to Planned Parenthood- Go For It! That is great- its still around, and they help women all over which is wonderful- so donate to them. I just want people to stop bashing SGK. There has to be so much more behind the scenes that we all dont know about. I have met so many amazing men and women each year that i have walked who are survivors and for that, SGK was a huge part of their recovery. Angela, The Breast Cancer 3 day is an experience that I will NEVER forget. I will always be a walker/supporter. Raising $2300 is not easy, but its not unrealistic either. Even with this going on, you will find those who support YOU...so what if its a SGK walk. YOU are taking a stand to do something so amazing to help save women everywhere. YOU are walking 60 miles in 3 days and if people can't support YOU then thats a shame, but I believe in YOU and i know that YOU can and will help find a cure....

A few days after this was released the decision was made to reverse the plan and Planned Parenthood is back on the SGK organizations to grant. WOOHOO- No More Hate. This is good news. Not sure if it will stay like this for a long time, but for now it has been resolved and I am happy to not have to see mean things about SGK anymore on the social networks. I really thought I was going to have to defriend people...and I dont do that....
